Narayan Bhoot

The narrative of Narayana Bhoot is an integral part of Math's lore, illustrating the spiritual protection provided by the Guru and Lord Mukhyaprana (Hanuman).

• The Incident at the Rathotsava: During the early years of Math at Partagali, P.P. Shreemad Ramchandra Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji initiated the grand Rathotsava (chariot festival). As the Math’s fame grew, external forces reportedly sent a spirit known as Narayana Bhoot to disrupt the festivities.
• The Intervention: During the procession, the chariot suddenly came to a halt near the Hanuman temple and could not be moved even by the collective strength of hundreds of devotees. P.P. Shreemad Digvijayaramchandra Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji, realizing the spiritual nature of the obstacle, used his yogic power to compel the spirit into a coconut, which was then stationed at the feet of Lord Mukhyaprana.
• Continuing Traditions: To this day, when the Maha-rath or the palanquin reaches the Hanuman temple during festivals, specific rituals are performed to honor this history. Two oil-soaked cloths are burnt from the top of the shrine, and coconuts are offered as Naivedhya to both Lord Mukhyaprana and the Bhutaraja, ensuring the peaceful and successful completion of the ceremonies.
