History of Swamiji
  • Scholarly Leadership and Community Welfare

P.P. Shreemad Poornaprajna Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji were known for their profound scholarship and dedicated administrative leadership. Having been given deeksha by their guru at the age of 14, they spent over five decades strengthening the Samsthan. In 1880 CE, they oversaw the construction and installation of the Shri Vira Vitthala stone idol in Cuncolim, marking a significant religious milestone.

    National Pilgrimages and Kashi Legacy

Between Saka 1781 and 1784, P.P. Swamiji undertook a monumental three-year pilgrimage across India. Starting from the south, they visited Shri Shaila, Tirupati, Kanchi, Rameshwaram, and Kanyakumari. Their journey continued northward through Nashik and Prayag to Kashi, where they stayed at the matha building. Demonstrating immense spiritual devotion, they performed a 'Sahasra Brahmana Bhojana' and established a permanent deposit with the King of Kashi. The interest from this endowment was dedicated to feeding twelve Brahmins daily, ensuring a perpetual legacy of annadana and scholarship in the holy city.

The Legal Defense of the Matha

Their tenure was defined by a historic legal struggle to protect the Matha’s autonomy. Following the establishment of Portuguese rule in Canacona, the government attempted to intervene in administrative affairs. P.P. Swamiji steadfastly defended the institution's rights, and after extensive legal battles, a final decree from Portugal was issued in their favor. This victory formally established the absolute authority of the Peethadhipati, though it was finalized as they entered vrundavana. They attained Haripada in May 1879.
